Note Max Scherzer's two different color eyes. The right is blue, the left is brown. This photo was taken when he played minor league baseball for the Fort Worth Cats.
How about Max Scherzer of the Diamondbacks who made history yesterday when he became the first major league pitcher to start his career in a relief role and he retired his first 13 batters! The Astros did win 6-4 over the Diamondbacks, but what a show from Sherzer!
Scherzer threw 47 pitches in all, 35 for strikes-which punched out 7 of the 13.He was on fire in 4.1 innings, relieving the sad starter Edgar Gonzalez. His pitches were touching 98 mph on the speed gun at various times. He had full command and pinpoint accuracy as he dominated the Houston Astros. Scherzer destroyed batter with his high rising fastball. His knee-buckling change-up, between 83-93 mph, left batters looking silly. All in all he mowed down the Astros' lineup with efficiency and panache.
The 2008 Diamondbacks are shaping up to be the best and most entertaining young team in MLB.
